Modernizing Hotel Lobbies
I read an article in USA Today recently about how major hotel brands such as Marriott, Hilton, and Hyatt are updating the feel and look of their hotel lobbies so that their guests are more comfortable, productive and happy, which is great for travelers!
As I was reading the article, I wasn’t surprised that these brands are also using modern furniture to spice up the experience of their customers. In reality, almost anything is going to be better than the pastel patterned furniture that was prominent in the ’80s and ’90s, but I’m glad to see that the people in charge of hospitality for these big brands are making strides to be in line with the trends of today.
It’s not only hotels, but I’ve been seeing more and more businesses and organizations with common rooms opting to use a modern style for these spaces. And why wouldn’t they? Modern furniture stylistically has become widely sought after recently, and has a timeless feel to it. I can imagine that these types of organizations will continue to focus more on what makes people happy, and right now, modern furniture is the thing that’s going to make people more comfortable.

Why is mid century modern furniture so popular right now?
Well, that’s not an easy answer. Mid century modern furniture can mean many things depending on who you speak with.
One of the great things about mid century modern furniture is that it really focuses in on a minimal and simplistic approach. The focus is on functionality rather than on complexity. With mid century modern furniture, the colors are often very simple. Maybe black, white, a dark finished wood, or a rad. Other than that, color is saved for any accents that might be present in the room.
Elegance and simplicity often go hand in hand, and with mid century modern furniture, there’s no difference. Elegant design is one of the key elements of what defines truly modern furniture.
Design might be an obvious way to define what mid century modern furniture is. Of course, it’s going to look a certain way and conform to a certain set of standards that is common for all mid century modern furniture, but the way that the whole category of furniture is conceptualized and built really differentiates mid century modern furniture from other types and styles of furniture.
For me, I like the way that modern furniture looks. Maybe it’s because I’ve got a simple outlook. Maybe it’s because I like the clean and polished look. Who knows. What are your thoughts? Is mid century modern furniture the best thing that has happened to the furniture world, or is it an over-hyped fad? What kinds of furniture do you prefer?
The Eames Lounge Chair was designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956. This is a classic example of the mid-century modern movement. The Eames chair has lasted for over 50 years, and is still a popular choice today.
It was originally produced by the Herman Miller Company. Herman Miller is still producing this model today. While the Herman Miller variety can be very pricey, there are some brands that have imitated the design of the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, and can be found more moderately priced.
Coaster Fine Furnishings is one of the largest and most respected furniture companies in the industry. They create a variety of furniture products and have some great pieces of furniture for your modern bedroom, living room, dining room or home office. They have been in business since 1972 and have an impressive selection of furniture to choose from. See for yourself!
I found a few of their modern pieces online, and wanted to share them with you:
You’ve got the modern home, ready for your contemporary living lifestyle, but where do you find the contemporary interior design ideas to finish off the whole package? I know, it can be hard to find inspiration when you’re looking for new contemporary interior design ideas. I’ve included a couple of the more social sources. I think that it’s important, especially when you’re beginning, to get feedback from others and to develop a community. These are just a couple of the more popular ones that are out there. Let me know which ones you’re using!
Contemporary Interior Design Ideas from Pinterest
One of the resources that I’ve found helpful is Pinterest. Pinterest is a great way to visually scan through pictures that other people have posted of their contemporary interior designs. One of the dangers with Pinterest is that there are a lot of great ideas that you can find. Make sure that you have a goal in mind, and know what you are looking for before you sign on. If not, you’ll be browsing for hours. Also, if you find someone with similar taste and ideas as you, follow their board so that you can have all of their latest pins available to you. While you’re checking it out, don’t forget to follow us!

Are you looking for some cool furniture to add a little flare to your home? Then you have come to the right place! Utilizing modern furniture for your next project will likely be an excellent route to explore when looking for cool furniture designs.
I’ve collected a few or, what I think, are really cool furniture pieces. These pieces all utilize contemporary design practices, which will be perfect for your new modern bedroom, living room, home office or dining room!
Cool Furniture Design Example 1: LC2
The Le Corbusier LC2 style chair is a classic of the modern furniture movement. These pieces have been gracing modern home designs since the late 1920s. The clean look and comfortable seating will work great for anyone that is crafting their new modern living room, or perfect for a reception area for guests at the office. To complete the look, don’t forget the sofa!
Cool Furniture Design Example 2: Noguchi type Coffee Table
Another cool piece of contemporary designed furniture is the Isamu Noguchi type coffee table. Like the LC2, this is a mainstay of the modern furniture world. This style of coffee table has been in production since the late 1940s, and has been popular ever since. This great coffee table could very well be the centerpiece of your contemporary furnished living room!
Cool Furniture Design Example 3: Metal Dining Set
Here is a cool piece that is a more recent addition to the modern furniture line-up. This bar height dining set might not have the history of the pieces listed above, but it certainly still has the classic look that defines the modern movement, including a simple and industrial look. A great addition to an informal modern dining room!
These are only a few of the very cool furniture designs that are available to you right now. If you have any feedback, or would like to see more, please leave a comment below and I’ll be happy to provide additional information!
I was just browsing online and found a couple of compact computer desks for a great price. I found each of these desks for under $50. They would be a great addition for a small work space. I wanted to share these because I know how difficult it can be to find good computer desks for under $50. Here are the desks:
These desks are great for bedrooms, small home offices, youth bedrooms, or even as a supplemental work space in the kitchen. The compact computer desk would be excellent for use even for college students.
On top of the wonderful features that these desks have, since these desks have the option to be fulfilled via Amazon, and are more than $25, they currently qualify for free shipping and free delivery! It’s tough to find a better value than this. These desks have both been marked down, so act now to get these desks cheap while the deals still last!
I realize that most of us are always looking to save a few dollars, so as a follow up to a previous post, I wanted to find some more examples of drafting tables on the cheap. So here we go! Below are a few examples of some cheap drafting tables. The tables below can all be found on Amazon. Click on the one you’re interested in, and it will take you right to the product that you clicked on.
I’ve always been interested in drafting tables. They are ultra versatile, and can adapt to a multitude of uses. Something about seeing one in someone’s work space just seems to legitimize their craft, whatever it may be. Whether you’re a do-it-yourselfer or someone that simply does a lot of drawing or writing, a drawing table can be a great addition to any home. I’ve included a few examples below so that you can see how versatile a drafting table can be. If it has a glass top, you can even adapt it to be a light table! I’ve also included a couple of chairs that would seem to suit this type of desk quite nicely.
If you’re a DIY expert, these are great to work on projects. You can adjust the table to an angle that is best for your craft, and you can have all of the tools that you need within reach.
Of course, if you are an architect or do a lot of drawing, one of these drafting tables are a no-brainer.
So what are you waiting for? Order one today!
